How to Remove Oil Stains from Slate Tiles

Ever had an accident and spilt oily food on the floor which scrubbing with regular soap and water won’t take away? Follow these easy steps to get your floor back to pristine condition!

You Will Need:

  • Kitty litter
  • Vacuum Cleaner
  • A stiff-bristle brush
  • Washing up liquid

How to Remove the Stain:

Pour a generous amount of kitty litter, covering the stain.

If the stain is recent, leave the kitty litter to work for around 10 minutes, if not for best results leave overnight and then vacuum away. If the stain is stubborn you may need to repeat the process again until you see a significant difference.

Use a stiff-bristle broom or floor polisher with either a watery solution of washing up liquid or a trusted floor cleaner, such as the Ewbank© floor polish and reviver, to further clean the area and remove any underlying residue.

Top Tip: If the oil stain is near a draft or may be disturbed, cover the kitty litter with some kitchen wrap. Always follow safety instructions as outlined on each cleaning product used. Also, it is fine to vacuum slate tiles, but be careful not to violently move the vacuum in such a way which damages the floor.
